Westport Weather
Boasting one of the mildest climates in New Zealand, the Westport region has a high annual quota
of sunshine and - with the effect of the prevailing westerly winds coming in from the Tasman Ocean
- the potential for high rainfall, especially in spring. But Hey! You don’t get pristine rainforest
without a little precipitation.
And where else would you find the locals promoting their adventure tourism industry with the phrase
- "go deep, go steep, get wet"? Actually what they are referring to is the dolphin encounters, the
rafting through glow worm grottos and underworld tunnels, the surfing, the fishing, the kayaking and
the jetboating!
Westport on average gets about 2000 mm of rainfall in the year, which may sound like a lot, but it
doesn't rain every day!
